VIK embarks on a new journey to reach the icon wines lineage: Beginning of March 2023, the 2019 vintage will be sold through the world’s famous fine wine distribution
network – La Place de Bordeaux. The move represents a milestone along VIK’s road to excellence, which began at its inception.

With the 2019 vintage of its icon wine VIK, Viña VIK will join the exclusive French wine distribution network, La Place de Bordeaux, the oldest and most prestigious of its kind in the world. This achievement is a watershed moment for VIK, which in just a short time has managed to earn extraordinary scores, awaken the industry’s most demanding critics and consumers curiosity. This is the first time that such a young estate (just 17 years old) has managed to place a wine made in Chile in the network. With this move, one of the main objectives of the winery is to gain a wider distribution to boost the international presence of the brand, focusing on Asia and Europe.

The entry of VIK 2019 into the négociant network coincides with the 10th anniversary of the launch of the wine’s first vintage, a blend of five varieties. VIK has evolved since then, and nowadays comprises just two varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

“With the help of our partners négociants we are confident that we will reach this next level of distribution and find the exposure our grand vin VIK deserves. We are glad to introduce the first wine from Cachapoal to them, our purpose has always been to make unique wines from our exceptional Millahue terroir that could help position Chile as a producer of world-class wines. Entering La Place de Bordeaux positions us in the pantheon of the world’s great wines, and we are very proud to be part of it. The unique qualities of our VIK 2019 will, on one hand, allow us to make our mark within this very competitive circuit, and on the other, ensure that we keep working as hard as always in terms of quality, thoroughness, and the ongoing pursuit of perfection”, commented VIK CEO Gastón Williams.

VIK, the wine adopted by La Place, is the Icon in the winery’s portfolio. With a base of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon along with 23% Cabernet Franc, both from the Cachapoal Valley, the 2019 is aged for 20 months in French oak barrels and for 6 months in Barroir barrels. Crafted in a Bordeaux oenological style, with enveloping flavours and aromas it has an exceptional cellaring potential. The wine has a stunning deep, glossy colour and a very expressive, pure, precise and aromatic nose. The palate boasts an elegant structure featuring ripe fruit.

VIK has earned exceptional scores from wine critics, including 98 points from James Suckling for the 2019 vintage.

The courtier who will represent VIK on La Place is Grands Vins du Monde, the beyond Bordeaux division of Bureau Leveque. The negociants chosen are CVBG, Crus & Domaines de France, The Wine Merchant, Veyret Latour, and BVS.
