The latest version of our iconic wine, VIK, scored 100 points for the first time, an extraordinary achievement for a winery with just 20 years of history.

VIK’s path to excellence in wine began in 2004 when visionaries Alex and Carrie Vik launched this great project. Just 20 years later, the whole team earned this recognition: a perfect score of 100 points from James Suckling for the 2021 vintage of VIK’s iconic wine.

The first vintage of the wine (2010), marketed since 2015, incorporated all the varieties on the estate: Merlot, Syrah, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the following years, the wine evolved from five to three varieties until finally arriving at the 2021 blend crafted by winemaker Cristian Vallejo and his team, which showcases the vineyard’s two flagship varieties: 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling and Zekun Shuai, Senior Editor for JamesSuckling.com, visited our winery and tasted VIK 2021 in early February 2024. Accompanied by winemaker Cristián Vallejo.

“Intense graphite with fresh lavender, thyme, rosemary and blackcurrant notes. Hints of decadence. Iodine and mussel undertones. Full-bodied with superb intensity and silky tannins that grow on the palate, showing great length that goes on for minutes. Truly great depth. 77% cabernet franc and 23% cabernet sauvignon. Best ever. 4,800 cases made. This needs five to seven years to come together. Drink from 2029.”
