BARROIR: A new Winemaking concept & innovation from VIK

We have always made our wines with minimal intervention: zero applications, only native yeasts, no filtrations and no finings nor additives to ensure nothing interfered in our expression of Millahue.

Inspired by the purity of the 2018 harvest, we developed the concept of 'Barroir,' barrels toasted with estate oak. A pure expression of Millahue could be obtained by aging in barrels toasted with our oak.

For the barrels, we diminished the foreign element by toasting used and new French staves with oak from our hills, and then building proprietary barrels in our cellar cooperage. These estate crafted barrels will impart the flavor of our terroir. Approaching all of our work holistically, we use only fallen trees. The oak in our 57-hectare grove is well over a hundred years old and the species is French.
